How to register for the Series 63
- Get enrolled
If a firm sponsors you, it enrolls you through CRD. If not, you can open an enrollment window yourself through FINRA’s Test Enrollment Services System (TESS), as NASAA confirms for candidates who are not U4-registered or affiliated with a firm.
- Pay the $147 fee
Paid at enrollment (by you or your firm). Verified on FINRA’s Series 63 page on 2026-09-23.
- Watch for your 120-day window
FINRA posts a 120-day scheduling window in CRD. Your exam must be taken inside it.
- Schedule with Prometric
Test center; NASAA allows online testing only by accommodation.
- Reschedule early if needed
To avoid rescheduling or cancellation fees, change a FINRA-administered appointment at least 10 business days before the date.
- Test day
Bring valid government ID that matches your enrollment name, and arrive early (online candidates check in 30 minutes ahead).
Test center or online?
NASAA discontinued general online testing for the Series 63, 65 and 66 on April 1, 2022. It now offers online exams only by accommodation, to candidates who are immunocompromised and at increased risk. Plan on a Prometric test center.
NASAA rule (Series 63/65/66): wait 30 days before a second attempt, 30 days before a third, and 180 days before later attempts within a two-year period. From January 4, 2027 the wait after a third failure drops to 60 days (announced by NASAA on August 10, 2026). The first two 30-day waits are unchanged.
